DR SHANNON DANCES IN EVERY DAY LIFE

Dancers listen and move to bluegrass music during the opening night of the Ogden Music Festival at Fort Buenaventura on Friday, June 1, 2018. BENJAMIN ZACK/Standard-Examiner

My grand daughter, Kaia and I love to listen to music together, dance, play and talk about ideas. To kick off summer we danced together at the Ogden Music Festival. I love seeing such EASE & JOY in her body, such confidence and un-self-conscious pleasure…even at the cusp of being a teenager.

To me, it is a testament to the power of this work…she has danced and made art with me all her life. She has been raised in a climate of freedom to be herself. I can hardly wait to see what she will bring into the world and ALL of who she will become as she grows into her adulthood.

This is true for all of us, as we move, dance, make art and connect with others; we are invited out of the constriction, shame or dulled out/numbed life we have lived in. We are held in kindness and gentleness as we HEAL into the fullness of our own expression in the body and in life. Such joy, ease and goodness is found here and is something I wish for all of us.
